Flux Bespoke Tailor was started in 2014 by A A Rana, who learned this work the way it has always been learned — from his father, who learned it from his.

The inheritance
Nobody in this family read about tailoring in a book
A A Rana did not arrive at this trade through a business plan. He arrived through his family. His father cut garments, and his grandfather before that, and the knowledge moved the way it has always moved in tailoring — across a table, one correction at a time, until your hands know it without being told.
That is what opened in 2014. Not a shop with a concept, but a third generation of people who already knew how to do the work.
The workshop
Mr D V Daniel has been here since the first day
Mr D V Daniel is a master tailor. He drafts the pattern, he cuts it, and he tailors the garment. Those are three separate trades, and one person rarely holds all three.
He started his career in London while he was still very young and has been at the table ever since. He joined Flux at the beginning, and he is still working today.
When we measure you at a branch, the pattern that comes off those numbers is shaped by decades of somebody else’s practice.
That is the part you cannot buy off a rack, and the part no size chart will ever stand in for. A measurement is only as good as the person reading it.
The hardest thing we have made
17 kg
A bridal dress in mesh chiffon, beaded by hand until it weighed 17 kilograms — and a beaded suit for the groom to match it.
A dress that heavy has to be built, not simply sewn. The structure underneath has to carry every bead without the chiffon giving way, and the bride still has to stand in it all day and dance in it that night.
It took the whole workshop. It is still our hardest.
What we do not do
Three things we will not be talked into
- We do not sell off the rack.Every Flux garment begins as a measurement, not as stock waiting for someone to fit it.
- We do not measure from a size chart.You are measured in person, at a branch, by someone who will see the garment through.
- We do not take work we cannot do well.If a fabric is wrong for the garment you want, we would rather tell you than take the money.
Where we are now
10 branches open across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, with more on the way. Men’s and women’s bespoke, alterations, and suit hire — all of it cut and fitted by the same workshop.
